Since winning the JM Family African-American Achievers Award for Arts and Culture in 2006, I have continued working with and mentoring youth, but I have also written four new plays. My most noteworthy experience has been writing a full-length musical in 2010 entitled "Bravely We Sat Down, Fearlessly We Marched!" It is about the sit-ins by college and high school students in Greensboro, North Carolina (my home town) in the 1960s and its impact on the history of this nation. The musical was workshopped and mounted at the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center in 2011. I am now planning to do a production of "Bravely" in Greensboro as a fundraiser for college scholarships.
