Runette L. Williams

- 1993 Honoree – Education

Mrs. Runette L. Williams is one of the founding members (1984) of the Broward Community Foundation now known as the Community Foundation of Broward, where she established the Ola L. and Runette L. Williams Scholarship Fund. The scholarship is presented annually to a graduating senior and alternates between Blanche Ely High School and Northeast High School – the two high schools where her husband worked. He was employed by the School Board of Broward County for 30 years. He retired in 1984. Nowadays, Runette delights in the company of her nieces, her goddaughter (Glenda W. Allen), her many friends, former students, and parents of former students. She resides in her same neighborhood and enjoys reading, traveling and going to the theater. She continues to volunteer but on a much more limited basis since her heart bypass surgery in 2006. Runette has a heart for service and helping others. Even after a stroke in May 2011, she is slowly but surely "creeping" back into the "service mode."

She continues to serve as: A Trustee Board member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church Chairperson, M.C.B.C. Scholarship Committee Chairperson, M.C.B.C. Women Ministry's Annual Prayer Breakfast Parliamentarian, Pompano Beach Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Chairperson, Kiwanis Club of Pompano Beach – Westside, Young Children, Priority One Committee
