What are the African-American Achievers Awards?
The African-American Achievers Awards recognize the accomplishments and achievements of community leaders who have made significant contributions across South Florida. Awards are given in four categories: Arts & Culture, Business & Entrepreneurism, Community Service and Education. Additionally, a deserving high school senior is recognized with the Jerome Edmund Gray Youth Achiever Award and receives a four-year, needs-based scholarship to Florida State University. Established in 1992, the African-American Achievers Awards are presented by JM Family Enterprises, Southeast Toyota Distributors and JM Lexus in honor of the late Jim Moran.

Who is eligible to be nominated?
Nominees must reside in Broward, Miami-Dade or Palm Beach County.
What is the deadline to nominate?
The deadline to submit a nomination for the 2020 African-American Achievers Awards is November 29, 2019.
What do the Achievers win?
Four award winners, to be announced in February 2020, will be recognized through a comprehensive marketing outreach campaign leading up to the special event on April 23, 2020, where the winners will be celebrated. In addition, each Achiever will each receive a $10,000 donation to the charity(ies) of their choice from JM Family Enterprises, Southeast Toyota Distributors and JM Lexus. The Jerome Edmund Gray Youth Achiever, presented annually to a deserving high school senior, will receive a four-year scholarship to Florida State University.
How are the nominations evaluated?
A panel of independent judges from across the community evaluate all nominations based on the nominee’s unique approach to creating positive change and the impact he or she has on improving the quality of life in South Florida. Every year, judges include former Achievers and respected community leaders, as well as representatives from our media sponsors.
What is the selection process?
After the nomination period closes on November 29, 2019, the independent panel of community leaders evaluate the nominees to identify a group of semifinalists. From there, four winners are selected, one in each of the following categories: Arts & Culture, Business & Entrepreneurism, Community Service and Education. The African-American Achievers will be announced in February 2020 and will be formally recognized at a ceremony on April 23 at 6 p.m. at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
May I attend the awards ceremony even if I didn’t nominate someone or win an award?
Yes, please join us! The African-American Achievers Awards ceremony is free and open to the public. The event will be held on April 23 at 6 p.m. at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale. RSVPs will be collected closer to the event. You will be able to RSVP online or by calling 866-516-2497.
